Description
This barn, located about 60 metres north of Fairfield House, is probably from the 18th century and was re-roofed in the 19th century with alterations made in the early 20th century. It is constructed of blue lias random rubble and features a thatched roof that is hipped to the right, along with a hipped roof over a central two-storey projecting bay.
The barn's layout includes a two-storey central projecting bay with an outshot at the rear. The ground floor is divided by a porch block, while the first floor is an undivided space. The structure has three bays on the first floor, which contain 3- and 4-light unglazed 19th-century mullioned openings flanking a loft door leading to the porch. There is a plank door in the outer bay to the right, and the ground floor has 3-light unglazed mullioned openings. A reset sub-medieval centered arch doorway is located to the left, along with double doors to the porch and a square-headed opening with a plank door to the right.
Access to the first floor is provided by a flight of 13 brick steps, which lead to a round arched recess below on the left return of the steps. A large ranking buttress is present on the left return, and there is a catslide roof over the outshot at the rear, featuring two dormer windows in the center.
