Railings With Two Pairs Of Gates, And Overthrow With Lamp To Forecourt Of Nos 14 To 16

The railings with two pairs of gates and an overthrow with a lamp are located in front of numbers 14 and 16 on Boroughbridge Road in Knaresborough. They date from the mid to late 18th century and are made of wrought iron set on a gritstone foundation wall that has two courses. The railings stretch approximately 30 meters and feature gates on both the left and right sides. The railings are ramped, topped with pointed finials on the bars, and have vase finials at intervals.

The double gates opposite the main entrance, which is now number 16 (Bond End House), are about 1.20 meters wide and have semicircular braces on the lower half of the rails, along with interlaced circles on the lock bar and a ramped top. Above the gate to number 16 is an overthrow with a lamp, supported by single scrolled supports on either side of a square lamp cradle. A gas pipe attached to the right support is disconnected and not original, and the lamp is partially concealed by a tree.

The double gates opposite the former drive entrance, now leading to number 14 (Grove House), are approximately 3 meters wide and are styled similarly to the gates at the main entrance. The gate posts are designed as classical columns topped with vase finials.
