Description

Bond End House and Grove House is a large building that now serves as a nursery school and a house. It was constructed in the mid to late 18th century, with some additions made in the mid 19th century. The exterior is rendered and incised, topped with a Westmorland slate roof. The building has three storeys and five bays, with a two-storey, one-bay block added to the left.

The second bay of the main range features a fine six-panel door (number 16) with a fanlight, wooden architrave, and cornice, flanked by 19th-century bay windows that have 12- and 8-pane sash windows. The remaining ground- and first-floor windows are also sash windows with glazing bars set in flush wood architraves. On the second floor, there are nine-pane sashes in flush wood architraves. The building has cornices over the ground-floor windows and a band at the first-floor level, along with a dentilled eaves cornice and ashlar coping. There are end stacks and a ridge stack opposite the door, as well as a fluted lead rainwater head with a 20th-century downpipe on the left return of the main range.

The two-storey, one-bay block to the left features a ground-floor bay window with a slated pitched roof. The left return of the building includes a 19th-century service range. The property is divided between the three left bays and the two right bays of the main facade.
