Description
Trees House is a former farmhouse, now a house, dated 1725 with early 19th century and 20th century alterations. It features a rendered exterior with painted stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has a central staircase plan with a projecting staircase wing and is two storeys high with three bays. The central entrance is adorned with a moulded eared architrave and moulded cornice, leading to a six-panel door. Above the door is a panel inscribed with "B T E 1725," representing Thomas and Elizabeth Burrows, surrounded by acanthus decoration. The house has two early 19th century windows on the ground floor and two upper floor windows, both with two-light flat-faced mullioned sashes. There is a central single-light sash window on the upper floor. The eaves are shaped with modillions. The left-hand gable end has a ridge stack at the former gable, now located at the junction with a cottage. The rear of the house is said to contain an entrance with a 17th century surround. Inside, there is an early 18th century dog-leg staircase with a closed string and turned balusters, reputedly inscribed "TEB 1725."
