Description

Castle House Farmhouse and Brownridge Cottage is a farmhouse with an attached barn, dating from the early 18th century, with later extensions and alterations from the late 18th century and 19th century. The building is constructed of squared chalk, which has been whitewashed, with red brick extensions and barn also whitewashed at the front. It features a pantile roof and brick stacks.

Originally designed as a single-cell structure with a direct entry plan, the farmhouse was later extended to the right in two stages, and a barn was added to the left. The front elevation is 1½ stories high and consists of six bays. There is a four-panel door with an overlight located to the right of the center, flanked by 16-pane sash windows with stone sills. To the left, the original doorway has been blocked and replaced with a 6-pane sash window, while a 2-light small-pane horizontal sliding sash is located at the far left. On the far right, there is a 3-light large-pane horizontal sliding sash with a stone sill. The attic features raked dormer windows with sliding sashes, and the leftmost dormer has square leaded lights. The door opening has a header brick arch, and there is a stepped brick eaves course on the brick extensions. The roof is hipped at the right end, with stacks positioned at the ends.
