Description

Church Cottage is a late 18th-century dwelling, originally three cottages. It is constructed of hammer-dressed limestone with a pantile roof and brick stacks. The building has two storeys and five first-floor windows. A six-fielded-panel door is set beneath a 20th-century porch. There is one casement window to the left and four to the right, with two two-light Yorkshire sash windows to the extreme right; evidence remains of blocked doorways beneath the third and sixth windows. The first floor has C20 casement windows, with a Yorkshire sash to the extreme right. Channelled lintels are present throughout the building. The roof has gable coping, shaped kneelers, and ridge and end stacks. The cottage to the right retains original wide board doors with H-L hinges, and stone flagged floors. A left-hand cottage contains a rebuilt inglenook with an original bressumer. Group value within a historical context is noteworthy.
