Description
No. 5 Church Street is a house that likely dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of random rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with rusticated quoins and gutter brackets. The windows have plain stone surrounds, except for the center window on the first floor, which has a blind architrave. The windows are sashes without glazing bars. The entrance consists of a half-glazed door set in a stone surround, which is decorated with cut consoles, a frieze, and a cornice. The frieze is shallowly incised with two lunettes, reminiscent of the decorated lintels found in the 17th century. The house has gable stacks and is complemented by a small front garden that is enclosed by early 19th-century railings featuring fish-shaped motifs.
