1/124 Cart-shed and pigeoncote approximately 100 metres 15.3.66 south-west of Cayton (formerly listed as 'Barn and dovecot'; the barn now listed with the stable (qv)

Cart-shed with pigeoncote over. c1770 for John Messenger. Cobble and ashlar, stone slate roof. Square plan. 2 storeys, 1 bay. Quoins. Paired round-arched openings on east side with raised imposts and keystones. South side: a large Venetian window with glazing bars to first floor, the left light blocked; architrave with raised keystone and imposts. Pyramidal roof with shaped kneelers projecting diagonally at the corners. Interior: ground floor open, first floor has a trap door and the inner walls are brick, lined with pigeon nesting holes. The pyramidal roof was probably surmounted by a wooden cupola.
