Description
This building is a cart-shed with a pigeoncote above, constructed around 1770 for John Messenger. It is made of cobble and ashlar with a stone slate roof and has a square plan. The structure is two storeys high and consists of one bay. It features quoins and has paired round-arched openings on the east side, complete with raised imposts and keystones. On the south side, there is a large Venetian window with glazing bars on the first floor, although the left light is blocked. This window has an architrave with a raised keystone and imposts. The roof is pyramidal, with shaped kneelers that project diagonally at the corners. Inside, the ground floor is open, while the first floor includes a trap door and inner walls made of brick, which are lined with pigeon nesting holes. It is likely that the pyramidal roof was originally topped with a wooden cupola.
