Description
Western Farmhouse at High Cayton is a house built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and has a purple slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a narrower recessed bay on the left side. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a four-pane over-light above. The ground and first floors have 16-pane sash windows, and all openings are topped with solid stone lintels and have projecting sills. The gables have copings, and there are banded multi-flue stacks at the ends. The recessed bay has a hipped roof. At the rear, there is a 20th-century porch to the left of the center, and a tall round-headed stair sash window with four by seven panes, featuring interlaced glazing bars at the top. Flanking this window are 16-pane sashes set in flush wood frames. The farmhouse is located on part of the site of the deserted village of High Cayton.
