Description
The barn and cart-shed located south of Gill Beck Bridge dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed, squared gritstone with horizontal tooling and features a graduated stone slate roof. The structure consists of four bays, with an outshut in bay one. The second bay contains a cart entrance with a flat arch made of splayed voussoirs, and to the right is a byre door. Bays three and four have four rows of narrow vents or putlog holes. The right return of the outshut has a round-arched cart entrance, with one door still remaining. The right return of the barn has three doors with tie-stone jambs and small vents above the lintels, along with a circular opening in the gable and vents similar to those at the front. The left return also features a circular opening and vents like those on the right gable. Inside, there are seven queen-strut roof trusses, and the timberwork for the byre and hay loft at the east end is likely original.
