Description
This is a mile post from the late 19th century, located 150 metres east of Springs Lane in Bilton in Ainsty with Bickerton. It features a cast iron face that is bolted with square-headed bolts to a triangular-shaped gritstone support, which has a rounded, flat-top. The mile post stands approximately 80 centimeters tall. The top of the post is inscribed with "Collingham & York / Road / Bickerton." The left side displays distances to Wetherby (2.5 miles), Collingham (4.5 miles), and Leeds (15 miles). The right side indicates the distance to York (11 miles). This mile post is part of a series, with two other similar listed mile posts, and is recognized for its quality and historical significance.
