Description
The footbridge, lychgate, and attached churchyard wall to the Church of St Mary were built in 1875 by G E Street for Sir Tatton Sykes. They are constructed from sandstone ashlar and feature wrought-iron gates. The footbridge has a single chamfered segmental arch and a plain parapet with sloped coping and a roll-moulded ridge. The lychgate includes a gabled gateway with a two-centred moulded arch beneath a rolled hoodmould. Each side of the arch displays low-relief saltire crosses within square surrounds, and there is a carved cypher in a circular surround above. The gable coping is roll-moulded and features a crocket wheel cross. The returns of the lychgate have three gabled buttresses, and the interior has three transverse moulded ribs. The churchyard wall is low, with sloped buttresses and sloping, roll-moulded coping.
