Description

Settle Bridge is a road bridge located at Giggleswick Bridge End. It likely dates from the 17th century and was widened in the second half of the 18th century, with 19th-century parapet walls. The bridge is constructed of squared rubble and ashlar. It features two spans with elliptical arches and four deep ribs on the upstream side of each arch, with each rib chamfered at the base. There is an 18th-century cutwater on the upstream side, and the bridge has been widened on the downstream side with a cutwater that is bonded into the masonry. The bridge is also recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
