Description
Settle Bridge is a road bridge that likely dates back to the 17th century and was widened in the second half of the 18th century. The parapet walls were added in the 19th century. It is constructed from squared rubble and ashlar. The bridge features two spans with elliptical arches, each supported by four deep ribs on the upstream side, which are chamfered at their bases. There is a cut water from the 18th century on the upstream side, and the downstream side has been widened with a cut water that is bonded into the masonry. The historical context includes a reference from an account of West Riding Bridge dated 1797, located at the West Yorkshire Record Office in Wakefield.
