Description
9 Sandside, known as The Old Custom House, is an early 18th-century building that stands three storeys high with an attic. It is constructed of painted brick and features stone string courses between the floors and chamfered stone quoins. The tall gabled front has two bays that rise to a parapet, topped with moulded stone coping. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with slate. An arched window is located in the attic, while the second floor has two windows without glazing bars, featuring flat arches with keystones. The lower floors have had their windows altered to include plate glass. The rear elevation retains original brickwork and a bracketed cornice, with three sash windows, some of which still have glazing bars, although most have been altered. The segmental brick arches are also noted on the rear.
