Description
West Farmhouse is a house that originated in the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from limestone rubble that is brought to course and has a 20th-century pantile roof. The house features a through-passage and a three-cell plan, standing two storeys high with four windows on the first floor. The front has a 20th-century panelled door on the left, accompanied by a casement window, and two 16-pane sash windows to the right. On the first floor, there are two 2-light Yorkshire sash windows on the left and two 16-pane sash windows on the right. Timber lintels are present throughout the building. The gable has coping, shaped kneelers, and end and ridge stacks. Inside, there is an intact inglenook fireplace at the left end and several massive chamfered cross beams. The arrangement of doorways and cupboards at the back of the house indicates that there was likely a former back passage. It is believed that the house was raised to two storeys and refronted in the early 19th century.
