Description

Swadford House is a pair of houses, now combined into a single dwelling, dating to the 18th century with alterations from the 19th century and restoration in the 20th century. The construction is primarily brick in English bond, with a stone slate roof on the left-hand side and Westmorland slates on the right. The building has two storeys and five first-floor windows, one of which is blind. The facade is divided into two blocks: a three-window block to the left and a two-window block to the right. A stone plinth and quoins are visible, with some features appearing to be false. The right-hand block features a six-panel door with a fanlight, set within a stone architrave and cornice topped with two stone balls. To the right of the door is an eight-pane sash window with margin lights, set under a slightly cambered arch with a keystone. Above the door is a blind window with painted glazing bars. A sixteen-pane sash window, set in a flush wood architrave with a slightly cambered head, is on the right-hand side. An end stack is located on the right. The left-hand range has a sill band. To the right, a sash window with glazing bars is set within a flush wood architrave. Double keystones are present on this window and on the site of a blocked window to the left. On the first floor, three sashes with glazing bars are set in flush wood architraves. A first-floor band is present, and may be a restoration. The eaves are lower on this range than on the one to the right. An end stack is on the right. The interior was not inspected.
