Description

A pair of houses dating from the early 19th century. They are located on the south side of York Place in Knaresborough. The houses are built of brick in English bond, with a Westmorland slate roof. Each house is three storeys high and has two bays. The houses share a central doorway, featuring paired six-panel doors with overlights in fluted architraves, topped with an entablature and cornice. Number 16 (on the left) has a 20-pane bow window to the left, with bowed brickwork beneath. The first and second floors of both houses have 16-pane sashes in flush wood architraves, with projecting stone sills and incised lintels. Number 14 (on the right) has a canted bay window on the right-hand side, and 4-light sashes to the first and second floors, also in flush wood architraves. Two 2-light dormer windows are set into the roof.
