Description
Newton House is a house that has been converted into a hotel, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of limestone, and the roof is not visible. The building has three storeys and three bays. The central entrance features a six-panel door with an overlight, framed by a shouldered architrave and consoles that support a frieze decorated with paterae and triglyphs, leading to a cornice and a segmental pediment.
On the ground and first floors, there are bow windows with three lights, which include sashes and glazing bars, and the walling is bowed below these windows. The first floor has a central sash window with glazing bars set in a flush wood architrave. The second floor features a lunette with a central sash window with glazing bars and margin lights, flanked by four-pane windows that likely have top lights pivoting, all set in flush wood architraves. All windows have flat arches with keystones, and there are sill bands at the ground and first floors. The building is topped with a moulded eaves cornice and a triangular pediment that has a blind oculus, flanked by short blocking courses. There are brick stacks at the ends of the building.
