Description
Huby Old Hall is a cottage that incorporates remains of the original hall, dating from the mid 17th century and 18th century. The earliest part of the building features long, narrow local red brick laid in English garden wall bond, while later work is done in red brown brick with an irregular bond and stepped eaves. It has a swept pantile roof with a central ridge chimney and is two storeys high with a gable facing the road. The gable end, which is the oldest section, has pilasters on each side with cyma recta mouldings and the beginning of a gable above. There is a 19th-century sash window on the ground floor, and the first floor has a two-course string and a round arch with later brick infill that contains a Yorkshire sash window. The side elevation shows irregular fenestration, with ground floor windows set under segmental recessing arches and an end door. Inside, there are beamed ceilings. This building was formerly the home of William Wakefield, the architect of Duncombe Park.
