Description

Healey Saw Mill, which includes both the mill and the house, is a structure from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is marked on the Ordnance Survey map as Swinton Sawmill. The building is made of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a graduated stone slate and machine pantile roof. The layout is L-shaped, with the sawmill on the left, a central range, and the house on the right.

The sawmill is a single-storey, one-bay structure with a gabled front. It has a double board door beneath a segmental arch with voussoirs, and above this is a 16-pane side-sliding sash window with a cement lintel and sill. The central range is two storeys high and has two bays. It features a board door on the left, two casement windows on the right, and above these, there are 4-pane sashes; on the far right of the first floor, there is a half-glazed door. The roof of this section is hipped to the left.

The house has been raised in height and is also two storeys with two bays. It has a half-glazed door with an overlight in the left-hand bay, and to the right, there is a 4-pane sash window with a plain stone surround. On the first floor, there is a 4-pane side-sliding sash window on the left and a 3-light side-sliding sash window on the right, which has a plain stone surround and one flat-faced mullion. The roof is covered with graduated stone slates and features end stacks.

Inside the sawmill, there is working mid-19th century saw machinery, and to the left of the central block, there is a large overshot waterwheel.
