Description
The building is a sawmill dating from the mid-19th century, with some 20th-century additions. It is constructed from dressed stone and brick, topped with a plain tile roof and features a brick stack at the rear. The sawmill has an L-shaped plan and is a single storey with a three-window range. The windows are tripartite wood mullion style, fitted with cast-iron lattice glazing, and have stone sills and ashlar lintels, along with shouldered drip courses. There is a later porch hood supported by curved brackets that provides access to a stone basement, which has various lights and openings. The gables have double doors set under segmental arches, topped with spike finials. The rear of the building includes a wheelhouse made of battened stud boarding, a plain tile roof with ornamental barge-boards and a pendant finial, a plain light to the right, and a tripartite light to the left under a shouldered drip course, both featuring cast-iron lattice lights. There is also an opening in the dressed stone basement. Inside, the original wheel has been removed due to conversion to electricity in the early 20th century, but the sawmill still retains its racksaw and shafting. This building is included for its group value, forming a group with the Cornmill, Bridge over the Teme, and Weir.
