Description

The churchyard wall at the Church of St Cuthbert was built around 1848, coinciding with the construction of the church, and was later modified in the early 20th century. It is made of coursed rubblestone with ashlar dressings. The wall features quoins at the corners and has a chamfered coping. On the south side, there are quoined pilaster buttresses with offset tops, and this section serves as a retaining wall. The west wall ascends the slope and is interrupted by a lychgate, which is listed separately. The east wall includes a gateway, while the wall to the north of this and the north wall are believed to have been constructed around the early 20th century following the expansion of the churchyard. The wall is included for its group value with the church.
