Description
Hardisty House is a house dated 1728, although it incorporates earlier, late 17th-century fabric, likely built for William Hardisty. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and two bays wide, with a rear outshut. It features quoins. The central entrance has a half-glazed four-panel door set within a doorcase with moulded quoined jambs and an ogee lintel bearing the raised lettering "H 1728." A five-light recessed chamfered mullion window is present on both floors to the left side, while three-light flat-faced mullion windows are found on both floors to the right. The exterior includes bulbous kneelers, gable coping, a banded central ridge stack, and a right-end stack. The rear elevation has a central stair window with a transom. On the left return, an outshut incorporates a recessed chamfered cross window, although the wall of the outshut has been pebble-dashed. The interior has not been inspected. The house name 'Hardisty' is also found in the parishes of Denton and Nesfield with Langbar.
