Description

This is a mile-post located at the junction with Maegill Lane, probably dating from the late 18th century. It is made of gritstone and stands approximately one metre high, with a square cross-section. The front features incised hands pointing in opposite directions along with the inscriptions "TO OTLEY" and "TO PATELEY". On the left side, there is a pointing hand and the inscription "TO FEWSTON". The rear surface has been retooled and shows the remnants of an earlier inscription that reads "OUGH". This may be the remains of "SCOUGH", the pre-19th century spelling of Scow Hall in Norwood.
