Description

Holly Bank is an early 18th-century house, originally a farmhouse, with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed, squared sandstone with a pantile roof and brick stacks. The original layout was a two-cell, direct-entry plan, subsequently extended to incorporate an outbuilding to the right and a rear staircase and service outshut were added. The front facade has two storeys and four windows. A four-panel door is located to the left of centre, accompanied by a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. A blocked fire window sits to the right of centre. The windows are primarily three-light horizontal sliding sashes with keyed lintels, with the exception of a lower right window which is two-light with a plain lintel. A 20th-century horizontal sliding sash window has been inserted above the front door. Coped gable walls feature kneelers. A stack is located at one end of the building, and another is situated to the right of centre. Inside, a main hearth remains in the central room, along with a spice cupboard. The stone lintel to the parlour fireplace is hidden behind a 20th-century fireplace. In the centre bedroom, 20th-century plasterboard walling hides the brick firehood. Original timber partitioning is retained throughout the house.
