Description

Ivy Bank is a mid-18th century house, originally a farmhouse with associated outbuildings. It is constructed of dressed sandstone with a slate roof and brick stacks. The original layout was a three-cell cross-passage plan, later extended to incorporate the right-hand outbuilding. The front facade is of two storeys and five windows. A 20th-century glazed door is located to the left of the centre, sheltered by a segment-arched lattice porch. Throughout the house are 16-pane sash windows with stone sills. All ground floor openings have heavy, plain stone lintels. The gable walls are coped with kneelers, and there is one stack at each end, with another positioned to the right of the centre.
