Description

Westmeade is a house dating from the late 18th century, with later additions from the late 19th century. The front is made of hammer-dressed sandstone, while the rear is constructed of brick, topped with a pantile roof and featuring brick stacks. The house has a central stair hall and is one room deep, with a later longitudinal passage and service rooms at the back.

The symmetrical front is two stories high with an attic and features three windows. Stone steps lead up to a central four-panelled door, which is topped by a radial fanlight and set within an architrave that has an open pediment supported by brackets. On either side of the door are tripartite sashes with glazing bars, and the first floor has a 12-pane sash window in the center. All windows are adorned with gauged brick arches and fasciated keystones.

The eaves course is decorated with triglyphs beneath a moulded gutter that has carved lion heads. There are 20th-century dormers, and the gable walls are coped with moulded kneelers. The roof has end stacks and a double span design. Inside, the house features 18th-century doors in all rooms, with brass fittings on the doors to the main rooms upstairs, and alcove cupboards in the upper rooms.
