Description
Swainsteads is a farmhouse dated 1676, with two later 17th century bays added on the right side, as well as alterations from the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from slobbered squared rubble with stone dressings and has a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and five bays, following a lobby entry plan. The entrance, located to the right of centre, features a moulded surround and a decorated lintel inscribed with "TIS," along with a dripstone and a 20th century plank door. To the left of the entrance are three ground floor chamfered mullioned windows with hoodmoulds: one four-light window, one former four-light window with only the central mullion remaining, and one former two-light window without a mullion. On the right side, there is a three-light chamfered mullioned window. The upper floor has five chamfered mullioned windows: two three-light and three two-light. The right-hand gable end has two ridge stacks. Inside, there is a fireplace with a massive decorated lintel inscribed "TAS 1728," supported by pilasters.
