Pump house approximately 80 metres east of Scampston Hall and attached walls sunk in ground on south side.

The pump house, built in 1778, is located approximately 80 metres east of Scampston Hall, with attached walls sunk into the ground on the south side. It is constructed of orange-red brick in English garden wall bond, resting on a tooled sandstone base, and features stone coping. The building has a square plan.

The battered east side includes a low segment-arched opening with a blocked roundel above it. The south side has a segment arch supported by shaped abutments, which covers a channel running through the building. A wide doorway with a heavy lintel is found on the west side. The date panel on the north side is set in a raised surround but is currently obscured by ivy.

Inside, the floor is partly sunken to create a wheel pit for an undershot wheel, and the roof is massive and tunnel-vaulted. A channel bringing water from the nearby lake, along with a sluice, can be seen to the south-east. Water collected in a small pond on the south side was controlled by a sluice within the pump house, allowing it to flow through the building and out through a tailrace on the north side. The pump house is included for its industrial and historical interest.
