Description
The pump house, located west-southwest of the bridge over the St Austell River, was built in the early 19th century and was formerly used in connection with the tin-streaming works. Constructed from Killas rubble, it features timber lintels above the doorways, except for a segmental brick arch over the south opening. The building has a corrugated asbestos roof and a rectangular plan, with central openings at both ends aligned with the leat and wheel pit of the former undershot wheel, as well as opposing doorways on the side walls at the south end. The south opening has been partly blocked at some point. The interior does not contain any surviving machinery. This pump house is noted as a rare surviving example of its type and holds group value as part of this early 19th-century port.
