Description
The well house and pump located at the rear of Number 5 Church Row in St Austell were built in 1820, with the pump being added in the late 19th century. The structure features walls made of Pentewan stone rubble, with dressed stone jambs. It has an irregular-plan lean-to roof covered with large, thick slate slabs. The well house is rectangular and is built against a quarried face, positioned over a natural spring. In front of the left-hand jamb, there is a cast-iron pump that has a turned shaft, which is wider at the top housing and topped with a domed finial. The pump includes a spout at the front and a shaped handle on the right. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
