Description
This lime kiln, located on the foreshore of a former china clay port, dates back to around the 1820s and is shown on the 1843 tithe map. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with granite keyblocks forming the round arches of the entrances. The kiln has a square plan featuring two working chambers with half-dome vaults. Access to the top of the kiln is provided by a bank to the north-west and a ramp from the south-east. This structure is part of a group of buildings associated with the operations of the china clay port, which was developed between 1818 and 1826, with a horse tram-road linking it to St Austell completed in 1829.
