Description
The field building at Scampston Hall Estate is a stable and loft dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of pink-red brick in English garden wall bond, with sandstone dressings and a pantile roof. The building is single-storey and consists of three bays. It features a round-arched doorway situated between round-arched window openings that have moulded sills. The arches are adorned with keystones and moulded imposts. The eaves cornice is stepped and dentilled, and the gables are coped with shaped kneelers. The right side of the building has a wide doorway with a timber lintel and a pitching window in the gable end. This structure is possibly the last remnant of the extensive stud farm originally established by Sir William St Quintin, 4th Baronet, in 1730.
