Description
This is a boundary stone located at the grid reference SD 9588 5218, which was originally used to separate the lands of Thomas, Earl of Thanet, and Stephen Tempest of Broughton Hall. It now marks the division between the parishes of Stirton with Thorlby and Broughton. The stone dates back to 1698 and is made of millstone grit rubble, standing approximately 80 cm high. It is number 36 in an original series of 41 boundary stones. The northeast side is inscribed with a "T" for Thanet, while the southwest side features "ST" for Stephen Tempest. The number 36 is inscribed on the top of the stone. It is positioned about six yards within Thanet's land to help protect it from water damage.
