Description

Pond House Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse with an attached granary to its right. It has undergone alterations in the early 19th century and later. The farmhouse is constructed of pale reddish-brown local brick with a low plinth and a band marking the first floor level. It features cogged eaves relating to an early 19th-century raising of the roof. The roof is covered in pantiles, and there are end chimneys. The front gable faces the street. Originally having an end-lobby entrance, it was moved to a central position. The farmhouse now has a modern pedimented doorcase and casement windows set within soldier arches.

The front room on the east side contains an off-centre chamfered ceiling beam running north-south, featuring deeply curved (cyma) stops. An inglenook fireplace is present, flanked by early 19th-century pine cupboards. Three-panel doors are believed to date from around 1700. The North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group noted the building in Report No. 714.
