Description

Muston Hall is an 18th-century house that has undergone alterations and extensions in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar that has been whitewashed, with a whitewashed brick extension on the right side, and features a slate roof with stone stacks. The original layout was a central stairhall plan, two rooms deep, with later extensions added to the left and in two stages to the right.

The front of the house is symmetrical with two storeys and three windows, flanked by a single bay extension. The entrance, which was originally at the rear, features a central recessed six-panel door with panelled reveals and a traceried fanlight, all under a Doric portico. Above this is a wrought iron balcony rail designed in a honeysuckle pattern. On either side of the entrance are 16-pane sash windows set in late 19th-century architraves, along with a round-headed radial-glazed staircase window above the entrance.

The garden front mirrors the entrance front, showcasing a half-glazed, panelled door beneath a 16-pane sash window at the centre of the first floor. The house has end stacks and a hipped roof. Inside, the doors on the ground floor hall are adorned with reeded round-arched architraves featuring festoons. All ground floor windows and the staircase window have panelled reveals. The dogleg staircase is notable for its shaped cheekpieces, moulded handrail, and reeded turned balusters.
