Description

This is a former Congregational chapel, dating to 1769 and originally situated within the grounds of Number 4, Brookside. Constructed of coursed dressed sandstone, the chapel features a renewed roof covered with modern clay pantiles, incorporating stone copings and kneelers. The north, east and south facades are each punctuated by two tall, round-arched windows, each with cut voussoirs. These windows contain sash glazing bars and radial heads. A small inserted door is located in the north wall, positioned directly beneath a window. The original door is now concealed behind a late 19th-century extension, which has been converted into a separate dwelling. Internally, the chapel retains a west gallery supported by two simple wooden columns, and a Victorian central pulpit positioned at the opposite end.
