Description

High Nova Farmhouse and the attached barn are located on Middleton Lane. The barn dates from the 18th century, while the house was added in the early 19th century, incorporating part of the barn. The structure is built from coursed rubble sandstone and features a pantile roof with brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan, consisting of two storeys with three bays and a lower one-bay extension on the left.

The right part of the building comprises two bays that make up the barn. There is a stable door on the ground floor, with a loft door to the right accessed by a flight of stone steps. A single pivoting loft window is located at the end right. All openings have timber lintels. The left bay is incorporated into the house, which features a door with six fielded panels beneath a stone lintel, and 16-pane sash windows with stone sills and lintels on both floors. The eaves cornice and gutter are elaborately moulded, and there is a coped gable with a kneeler on the right side, along with an end left stack. The left bay has 4-pane replacement sashes with stone sills and timber lintels on both floors, as well as an end left stack.

At the rear, there is a blocked loft door in the centre and a two-light, small-pane horizontal-sliding sash window on the first floor to the right. The left return features 16-pane sashes on the ground floor and 12-pane sashes on the first floor. A 20th-century porch is present but is not of special interest.
