Description
The Church of St Martin is a building that was rebuilt in 1822, originally a medieval church. It is constructed of coursed sandstone and features a low-pitched roof made of graduated Lakeland slate. The church is designed in the Gothic style, with a nave and chancel each consisting of two bays. There is a small west tower that is battlemented and has two stages. The tower includes simple paired lancets beneath square drip moulds and a single similar bell opening. The east window has a reticulated head and a pointed drip mould, while diagonal buttresses are present at the corners. The north wall retains medieval masonry, which includes one 14th-century window with paired cusped ogee-headed lights.
