Description
Nos 104 and 105 on High Street are an inn that has been converted into empty premises and a shop. The building dates from the late 17th century or very early 18th century, with 19th-century and later alterations. No 105 has been significantly altered in the 20th century. The exterior is roughcast with a pantile roof that was replaced in the 20th century for No 105. Originally three storeys high, the right-hand two bays have been converted to two storeys, and the building originally had five bays, with the right-hand two bays now combined into one.
There is a central segmental-arched passage opening with a gate. To the left, there is a 20th-century square bay window and a four-panel door with an overlight below it; to the right, there is a 20th-century projecting shop front. The first three bays feature four-pane sash windows in flush exposed sash boxes with projecting ashlar sills on the first floor, and six-pane half-size sash windows in flush exposed sash boxes on the second floor. The fourth and fifth bays have a single unsympathetic four-light casement window. The building has a large dentil eaves course and a brick stack on the left side.
No 104 includes an old rear wing that has two phases of construction, is three storeys high, and features stepped eaves and an external end stack on the right end. Inside, the roof of No 104 has one collared principal rafter roof truss. No 105 is included in the listing for its group value as part of the same historic entity as No 104.
