Description

Nos 102 and 103 High Street is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of grey-orange brick in Flemish bond and features a 20th-century pantile roof. It stands three storeys high and has seven bays, with two short gabled wings at the rear. The building has ashlar raised quoins.

In the fifth bay, there is a 20th-century glazed door set in an ashlar surround with a plinth, along with fragments of a sill band that has a diaper surface below the wall and a tripartite keystone above. The left side features a 20th-century classical shop front, while the right side has a 20th-century shop window. On the first floor, there are sash windows with flush exposed sash boxes and thick glazing bars in the first four bays, along with projecting ashlar sills and flat arches topped with raised and taller tripartite keystones. The second floor has half-size six-pane sash windows with thick glazing bars, projecting ashlar sills, and tripartite keystones. A delicate Greek key band runs along the eaves cornice, and there are broken shaped kneelers with ashlar coping. Brick stacks are located at the ends and between the fourth and fifth bays.

No 102 has a large single-storey rear extension. An attached rear range to the left was demolished and rebuilt in 1986, which separated the front range from a rear cottages/workshop range. Additionally, an attached range and cottage to the rear right were demolished in 1987, and the central passage that provided access to these rear premises was absorbed into the shop in No 103.
