Description
The Friends' School West Central Building is a school building dated 1842, located on the south side of High Green in Great Ayton. The structure is rendered, featuring a stone plinth and floor bands, with tooled, dressed stone and cill bands on the east side. It has a Lakeland slate roof and stone stacks. The building is three storeys high and has six windows.
On the left side, there are four steps leading to a six-panel double door with a plain overlight above. The windows are 12-pane sash types set in deep reveals with projecting cills. The eaves have a bracketed gutter, and there are two corniced ridge stacks. The east front, which is three storeys and six bays wide, has 16-pane sash windows with segmental heads. At the center, there is a shaped raised parapet featuring a clock face and a date panel. Above this, a square bellcote with a ball finial is positioned.
