Description

Hope Cottage, now two dwellings, dates to the late 17th century. The ground floor and end walls are constructed of large, regularly coursed squared stone, while the upper walls are of local pinkish-yellow brick, featuring a stepped eaves cornice. The roof is pantiled with stone copings and chimneys. The building is two storeys high and has 6 bays, characterised by its wide proportions and slightly irregular appearance. The doors are set within heavy surrounds of alternating blocks, a feature also found on the casement windows. The door on the left side has lost its lintel. 20th-century garage doors have been inserted on the right. Two corniced chimneys are present. A contemporary, single-storey rear extension includes a small oak-framed window and an older stone chimney.
