Description
The Endowed School, formerly known as Bilton Endowed School, dates from around 1793. It is a two-storey building with a double front and five windows, featuring one-storey extensions on both the north and south sides, with the north extension dating from the late 19th century. The roof is made of stone slate and has gable kneelers and chimneys. The walls are constructed from coursed grit stone rubble. The building has flush framed sash windows with exposed boxing and glazing bars. The central doorway is framed by a stone surround and includes a fanlight and a panelled door. Above the doorway is a plaque that reads: "This school was endowed by Mr Francis and Mr Richard Taylor, 2 brothers who dwelt here and built in the year 1793." To the south of the school, there is a low wall with a round-arched doorway that features pilasters, an archivolt, and a keystone, flanked by blank square-headed windows.
