Description
30 Long Street, also known as the former Bay House Inn, is a house and shop dating from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of red-brown local brick and features a pantile roof with rebuilt brick stacks that rise through the front pitch to the end and the second bay from the left. There is an iron tie at the ground floor. The building is two storeys high and has four bays, with the second bay from the left projecting forward.
The entrance includes a 19th-century four-panelled door with a fanlight, set in a painted doorcase that has consoles supporting a cornice in the projecting bay. To the right, there is an inserted four-panel door leading to the shop. The windows are 19th-century sashes within flush wood architraves, featuring painted splayed lintels with keyblocks and cills. A 20th-century square shop window bay is located to the right. The first floor has a stepped three-course band, and the first-floor windows match those below. The eaves have been heightened by about four courses.
