Description
This is a shop, originally two shops, dating to the late 18th century with additions and alterations around 1900 and in the late 20th century. It incorporates earlier fabric and was initially a single-depth range with a rear stair wing dating to the early 19th century and a late 19th-century rear wing. The building is constructed of coursed rubble, rendered and painted, with a slate roof, gable stacks, rusticated quoins, and bracketed eaves. It is two bays wide and three storeys high. The ground floor has a pair of late 19th-century shop fronts, each with a recessed central glazed door and flanking shop windows. The right-hand shop front has a wooden pilaster surround dated 1900. Above the shop fronts, the left-hand side has a triple glazing bar sash window, and beside it a later 3-light casement. The second floor has two triple glazing bar sash windows, all with moulded ashlar surrounds. At the rear, there is a round-headed sash window. A blocked carriageway is also present.
The interior of the right-hand shop contains a first-floor gallery. There is an open-well stair with a square-section balustrade, a ramped rail, and a moulded string. This includes raised-panelled doors in mitred surrounds, internal shutters, a dado, and a soffit to the second floor. The stair hall ceiling features a stamped anthemion frieze. The roof contains two king-post strutted trusses. The interior also includes later panelled doors, shutters, and minor fittings, all dating to around 1800.
