Description
Aiskew House is a house dating from 1734. It is built with a rendered exterior, stone dressings, and a graduated stone slate roof. The house has a double-range plan and a symmetrical, five-bay elevation of three storeys. A three-step stone approach leads to a central 18th-century half-glazed door set within a stone Doric porch. The porch has two pilasters, two columns, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course. All windows have stone sills; ground and first floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, while those on the second floor are six-pane sashes. The house has wide eaves, stone copings, shaped kneelers, and end stacks.
The interior features a hall with diamond-shaped stone flags on the floor and a large, open-well staircase with bulb and umbrella balusters. A round-arched stair window is flanked by fluted Ionic pilasters and a keystone. The main rooms have simple, moulded cornices.
