Description
Christ Church is a church built in 1876 by John Ladds, incorporating materials from a previous church dating back to the 12th century, which was partly rebuilt after 1318. The church is constructed of sandstone and has a Welsh slate roof, designed in the Early English style. It features a three-bay aisleless nave and a single bay chancel, which is flanked by a vestry on the south side and has a north porch. The west gable has an open double bellcote.
Inside, there is a reconstructed Norman doorway at the entrance from the chancel to the vestry, which includes two capitals, plain shafts, and voussoirs with zig-zag decoration from the earlier church. Other reused architectural details include the inner door arch and tympanum of the north porch, which features a cross in a roundel. A capital from the earlier church is incorporated into the piscina. The vestry window heads on the east side are from the 14th century, while the font is partly from the early 14th century. The church bell is thought to be from the 12th century.
