Description
Holgate Farmhouse and the attached farm building to the right were built in 1741. The farmhouse is made of coursed dressed sandstone, while the farm building is constructed from coursed rubble. The farmhouse has a stone slate roof, and the farm building features a corrugated sheet roof. The overall layout is T-shaped and consists of two storeys with three openings on the first floor and two on the ground floor.
The farmhouse, located on the left, has quoins and features a part-glazed door with an overlight in a quoined surround, inscribed with "S L E 1741" on the lintel, situated between the first and second bays. There is an inserted board door between the second and third bays. The windows are 6-pane sash types in ashlar surrounds, previously having flat-faced mullions, except for a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor to the left and a 4-pane casement window on the ground floor to the right. The right side has a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping, with ashlar stacks located to the left of the main door, to the left of the second door, and at the right end.
The farm building consists of two sections, each with quoins on the right. The left section has leaved board doors beneath a timber lintel, with a small blocked window above. There are external steps leading up to a first-floor board door in a quoined surround. Additionally, there is a low segmental-arched cart-shed opening next to the first quoins, which has a single board door and a 6-pane window above. The right side also features a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping. At the rear of the house, there is a central square stair turret.
